Questions? We have answers!

  1. Where are JP5 tablets available?

Currently, the JP5 tablets are available – or will be made available shortly – in the below locations:

    JP5mini:
Most Louisiana, Michigan, New Jersey, Virginia, Taft (Alkaline) and MSOP (Alkaline).

    JP5s:
    Georgia and Tennessee (pilot) facilities.

    Both JP5mini and JP5s:
Ohio, California (pilots), Florida (Spring 2018), Idaho, Minnesota, North Dakota, Ohio, Vermont and Washington facilities.

Not every facility offers the JP5 tablets, and not every facility offers both models. The best way to determine if your loved one’s facility offers JP5 tablets is to log into your JPay account on JPay.com and see which options are available for you to purchase on your loved ones’ behalf. You can also call JPay customer service at 800-574-5729 or email support@jpay.com.

  2. How much do the JP5s and JP5mini cost?

This varies by state. The best way to find out pricing is to log into your JPay account on JPay.com and see which options are available for you to purchase on your loved ones’ behalf.

  3. When can I pre-order a JP5mini or JP5s?

This varies by state. You or your loved one will be notified when presales begin. You can also log into your JPay account on JPay.com and see which options are available for you to purchase on your loved ones’ behalf.

  4. Once I or my loved one purchases a tablet, when will JP5s/JP5mini orders be shipped?

Devices are generally delivered within 45 business days from the order date. For pre-orders, this delivery time can be longer, and varies by state.

  5. Are the JP5s and JP5mini wireless?

Both tablets are WiFi-capable, but this function is inactive. When approved by your loved one's agency, WiFi will be activated.

  6. Is instant messaging/text messaging available on the JP5s or JP5mini?

    Not at this time.

  7. Can my loved ones upgrade to a JP5s or JP5mini on their own?

Yes, inmates can purchase or upgrade to the JP5mini or JP5s through the JPay kiosk using funds from their Media Account. They will need to turn-in their JP4 player to the property room to receive the new JP5 device.

  8. If my loved ones upgrade to a JP5s or JP5mini, will they still have access to
all of the music/emails/other content they had on their JP4?

Yes. All previously purchased music and other content is retained and will be transferred to the new device during the initial sync process.

  9. If my loved ones upgrade to a JP5s or JP5mini, will their JP4 still work in the meantime?

Yes, though our system temporarily locks the old player immediately after the pre-order or order was placed. But don’t worry, all functionality will be restored in a few days, at which point the JP4 can be used normally until receipt of the new device. They will need to turn-in their JP4 player to the property room to receive the new JP5 device.

  10. Can my loved ones still order music and copy it to their JP4, until their JP5s or JP5mini arrives?

Yes, they are able to sync and download new content until the JP5 ships out from our facility.

  11. I heard something about $20 media credit for current JP4 users?

Some states elected to issue a one-time media credit to inmates who upgrade from a JP4 to a JP5mini or JP5s during a certain promotional period. If this applies to your loved one, they will need to return their old JP4 to the property room, where it will be sent back to JPay. When JPay receives the old JP4, their media account will be credited with the $20 (again, if it aligns within the promotional period).

  12. Is the JP4 being discontinued?

In those correctional facilities that begin offering JP5 tablets, JPay will no longer sell the JP4, only the JP5s and JP5mini. Existing JP4 devices should continue to work as usual. If you or your loved one has a pending JP4 order, it will be automatically upgraded to a JP5mini at no cost.

  13. What should my loved ones do with their old JP4 devices?

Once your loved ones upgrade to a JP5s or JP5mini, they must turn in their old JP4 devices to the property room. All previously purchased music and other content is retained and will be transferred to the new device during the initial sync process.
